For more than thirty years, Jamie Travis has explored the relationship between humanity, nature, and the enduring symbols that have shaped our understanding of the world. Born and raised in Florida, he continues to draw inspiration from the elemental beauty of the natural world, creating paintings that weave together landscape, mythology, and timeless archetypes.
Although his professional career began in sculpture and metalwork, Jamie's interests have always extended beyond the physical act of making art. His degrees in Philosophy and Art fostered a lasting curiosity about mythology, symbolism, ancient history, and the timeless ideas shared across cultures. Even while completing college, every spare hour was devoted to creating artwork, a commitment that soon led to representation in more than twenty galleries throughout the United States.
After years of metal work and the creation of more than a thousand original works of art, Jamie chose to leave that medium behind and dedicate himself entirely to oil painting. The transition was driven not by a desire to change subjects, but by a desire to explore them more deeply. Painting offered the freedom to unite the elemental forces of nature with the symbolic language of myth, creating images that exist somewhere between landscape and story.
The ocean that shaped his childhood remains an important influence, but it now exists within a broader visual language. Fire, water, stars, and the sea have become recurring characters within his work—not simply as features of the natural world, but as ancient symbols, archetypes that have carried meaning throughout human history. Rather than illustrating mythology directly, his paintings draw upon its universal themes of transformation, resilience, mystery, renewal, and wonder. Familiar landscapes become timeless spaces where the physical world and the inner life meet.
Whether illuminated by flame, celestial light, or the restless energy of the ocean, each painting is an invitation to pause and reconnect with the enduring forces that have inspired humanity throughout history. They remind us that beyond the distractions of modern life, there remains an ancient relationship between ourselves, the natural world, and the stories we have always told to understand our place within it.
Jamie's artwork can be found in hundreds of private collections throughout the United States and Europe, from Scotland to Spain, as well as in the homes of PGA golfers including Justin Rose, NBA athletes, and numerous public and corporate collections including Ritz-Carlton, Seasons 52, Darden Restaurants, Lowe's, Kessler Hotels, and Wells Fargo.
